Classic
I've always felt a bit lacking in my knowledge of classical music. Which is strange as I played a couple of instruments as a child and I'm currently playing in an orchestra. I've tended to just play the notes, not really thinking about the piece or the composer. I think part of it is to do with the fact that classical music just isn't seen as cool. As a teenager I preferred to listen to Xmal Deutschland and Joy Division. Anyway, last week I bought a CD, an introduction to classical music. It's got a wide range of stuff on, from gregorian chant to Fanfare for the Common Man (and there was me thinking it had been written by ELP!!). I was surprised by how much I recognised: I suppose by its very nature it features the more obvious pieces - Moonlight Sonata, New World Symphony, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, etc. It's inspired me to delve deeper into the classical world: I fancy this and perhaps this.
