Eastertime

Maybe it's because it's Easter weekend, but I have a sudden urge to go to church. Well, not-so-sudden - it's something I've been thinking about for a while, but haven't felt the push to do anything about until now. As someone who last went to a service when she was a teenager, I'm currently trying to decide which one to go to. Do I go local? Or do I choose somewhere I think I'll fit in most? I think this one is my local church, but does it matter that it's anglican and I was raised non-conformist? Should I therefore go here instead? Or even somewhere else entirely - St James seems to be more my kind of thing... Hmmmmm.

As part of my search, I've come across a website that reviews church services - the Mystery Worshipper!

Peas and chips

Just been here. It's funny that HoF have gone all bling, what with all the designer handbags an' all, but the cafe is still resolutely old school. I had a pasta dish - with which I was offered chips, peas, carrots and gravy!

... When the leather runs smooth on the passenger seat

Unforunately, I'm doing other things the weekend this is on. Otherwise.. I would have been there.

Why Pamper Life’s Complexities? - A Symposium on The Smiths

The event seeks to draw together academics and others who wish to critically examine what The Smiths meant and continue to mean almost two decades after their untimely demise. Among the themes that we hope to address are: gender and sexuality, race and nationality, a sense of place, the imagination of class, the significance of Manchester in popular music, the aesthetics of the band, fan cultures and musical innovation.

These sessions look interesting:
Melinda Hsu (Meikai University, Japan) Posing as a 'Somdomite' on Top of the Pops: The Smiths and Camp Performance
Cordelia Bradby (Goldsmiths College, London) Does the Body Rule the Mind or Does the Mind Rule the Body? I Dunno
Amanda Graham (University of Oxford) The Music of The Smiths as Inside Joke

Then there's this:
Lisa Garrett (Roger Davies Artist Management) I Stole and Lied Because You Asked Me To: Considering the Transparency of the Smiths’ Business Practice in Relation to Their Creativity’ !!

I found out about this event just I finished reading Mark Simpson's Saint Morrissey - quite a good read, he has a fine turn of phrase - but I got a bit bored when he started going on about Morrissey's solo career. But it's not as good as Anti Gay.

Bloody Ages

Oh, I know I know...
Why don't I post more regularly?
I'm really going to try...

What's been going on in the past few weeks?
Been going to the doctor's with various niggly ailments - I'm presuming it's all last year's trauma coming out in a physical stylee. Except now, I notice I've got some sort of bulge above my left waist... so it'll be back again next week.

Apart from that, I've been yawning along in my now not-so-new new job. I think I'm putting off starting looking for a new one as I feel a need for a rest after all last year's interviews.

Currently reading this, with this on in the background. I'm enjoying both very much.
